Description

Red Petrified Wood is a type of wood fossil that has undergone a similar mineralisation process as brown and black petrified wood, but it has a special feature: the deep red colour.

The deep red colour is due to the presence of iron ores that have been deposited during the mineralisation process. Like other types of wood, red petrified wood retains the original structure and texture of the wood, but its organic compounds are replaced by minerals such as silica, limestone or hematite.

Because of this process, red petrified wood is a hard, resistant and valuable material.

This stone is found in many parts of the world, but mainly comes from the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona and Madagascar.
