Description

Malachite is a mineral from the carbonate group and has a characteristic emerald green colour due to the presence of copper. This mineral is multi-faceted and can take the form of a crystal, lump or compact mass.

Malachite has a hardness grade of 3.5-4 on the Mohs scale. It is a porous and not too fragile stone, therefore requires careful care and handling. It is known for its characteristic striped or rounded patterns, which make it a very decorative stone.

Malachite forms in environments where copper oxidises such as copper deposits of sedimentary origin. Malachite is the result of the alteration of copper minerals. It is often associated with healing energies and inner transformation, which is why it is very popular in crystal therapy and jewellery making.
