Description

Apatite s a quite common mineral. It is characterised by a wide range of colours, including green, blue, yellow, pink, brown, and purple. It has a hardness of 5 on the Mohs scale, which means that it is quite scratch-resistant. Apatite consists mainly of calcium phosphate, but may also contain traces of other elements such as fluorine, chlorine and hydroxyl. It can be found in many sedimentary and magmatic rocks.
