Sodalite
Description
Sodalite is a semiprecious stone of a deep blue colour and belongs to the family of aluminium silicates. Its name comes from the Latin word "sodalitas", which means "brotherhood" and refers to its ability to promote communication and harmony between people. Sodalite is a quite hard stone and can be both translucent or opaque. It often has white or grey streaks or spots that make it similar to lapislazuli, but unlike them it does not contain sulphides. Sodalite has been used as an ornamental stone since ancient times, and was discovered for the first time in Greenland in 1806. It is considered a protective and auspicious stone.Details
